The Zona reticularis is the innermost layer of the adrenal cortex, which is the outer portion of the adrenal gland, a gland found above the kidneys (which is why it is also known as the suprarenal gland). Gray's Anatomy the Respiratory apparatus ( Apparatus Respiratorius Respiratory system Respiratory apparatus Elsevier, the world's largest Publisher of Medical and Scientific literature, forms part of the Reed Elsevier group Situated along the perimeter of the Adrenal gland, the adrenal cortex mediates the stress response through the production of Mineralocorticoids and Glucocorticoids In Mammals the adrenal glands (also known as suprarenal glands) are the triangle-shaped Endocrine glands that sit on top of the Kidneys their In Mammals the adrenal glands (also known as suprarenal glands) are the triangle-shaped Endocrine glands that sit on top of the Kidneys their The zona reticularis is involved with the production of cortisol (similar to that of the zona fasciculata). Cortisol is a Corticosteroid Hormone produced by the Adrenal gland (in the Zona fasciculata of the Adrenal cortex) The adrenal gland produces norepinephrine and epineprhine (known as adrenaline in British nomenclature, hence the gland's name) in the adrenal medulla. The adrenal medulla is part of the Adrenal gland. It is located at the center of the gland being surrounded by the Adrenal cortex. Within the cortex, the gland produces mineralocorticoids such as aldosterone in the outermost zona glomerulosa (regulating salt balance), glucocorticoids such as cortisol in the middle zona fasciculata (regulating carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism), and androgens such as dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which is an important sex hormone in females. Mineralocorticoids are a class of Steroid hormones characterised by their similarity to Aldosterone and their influence on salt and water balance Aldosterone is a hormone that causes the tubules of the kidneys to retain sodium and water The zona glomerulosa of the Adrenal gland is the most superficial layer of the adrenal cortex lying directly beneath the adrenal gland's capsule Glucocorticoids (GC are a class of Steroid hormones characterised by an ability to bind with the glucocorticoid receptor ( GR) and trigger similar effects Cortisol is a Corticosteroid Hormone produced by the Adrenal gland (in the Zona fasciculata of the Adrenal cortex) Cells of the zona fasciculata sit directly beneath the Zona glomerulosa and are organized in bundles (or Fascicles) Androgen is the generic term for any natural or synthetic compound usually a Steroid Hormone, that stimulates or controls the development and maintenance of masculine Dehydroepiandrosterone ( DHEA) is a natural Steroid Prohormone produced from Cholesterol by the Adrenal glands the Gonads The zona reticularis lies beneath the zona fasciculata and above the adrenal medulla, and its cells are arranged in a network of cords (a reticulum). Cells of the zona fasciculata sit directly beneath the Zona glomerulosa and are organized in bundles (or Fascicles) The adrenal medulla is part of the Adrenal gland. It is located at the center of the gland being surrounded by the Adrenal cortex. [1][2]
