Originally a Silesian Slavic village, which became part of the Duchy of Głogów in 1250, the settlement became a town with Magdeburg rights in 1323. Zielona Góra has been known for its wines for centuries. It is now one of two places in Poland with wine grape cultivation mainly for white wines, (another one is the wine growing region near the town of Warka in Masovia). Wine is an Alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of Grape juice Warka is a Town in central Poland, located on the left bank of Pilica river ( south of Warsaw) with 11035 inhabitants (2004 Masovia or Mazovia (Mazowsze is a geographic and historic region situated in eastern Poland 's Masovian Plain. During the communist era wine production was reduced, but since 1990 it has recovered. However, nowadays wine is no longer produced in Zielona Góra itself (the last factory was closed in the early 1990s). Since 1852 an annual Wine Festival has taken place in the town. The city has a university and a College of International Trade and Finance. Currently there are 18,000 students studying in the city.
