He was born in Dunbarton, New Hampshire in 1777. Dunbarton, is a town in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, United States. He arrived in Upper Canada in 1797 and settled in Hamilton Township near the current site of Cobourg. Hamilton Township ( 2001 population 10785 2006 population 10972 is a rural township located in Northumberland County in central Ontario. Cobourg (2006 population 18210 is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located 110km east of Toronto. He was able to acquire large land holdings, thousands of acres, in the region, some as compensation for survey work. He also helped in the economic development of the Newcastle District, building sawmills and grist mills on his property. The War of 1812 was fought between the United States of America and the British Empire, particularly Great Britain and her North American colonies He was elected to the 7th Parliament of Upper Canada representing Northumberland & Durham. The 7th Parliament of Upper Canada was in session from February 4 1817 to May 3 1820. Northumberland County ( 2006 population 80963 is situated on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in east-central Durham County (area) is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. In 1831, he was appointed to the Legislative Council for the province and, in 1839, he was appointed a judge in the Newcastle District court. The Legislative Council of Upper Canada was the Upper house governing the province of Upper Canada.
He died in Cobourg in 1857.
