History

Karen O and Brian Chase first met as students at Oberlin College in Ohio in the late '90s, where Chase was a jazz student at the conservatory. Karen Lee Orzolek (born November 22, 1978) better known by her stage name Karen O, is the Vocalist for the New York art Brian Chase (born December 2 1978) is an American Drummer with the New York Rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Oberlin College is a private Liberal arts college in Oberlin Ohio. Karen then transferred to New York University, and while in New York met Zinner in a local bar, where they formed an 'instant connection'. New York University ( NYU) is a private, Nonsectarian, Coeducational Research University in New York City. Zinner is a surname and may refer to Ernst Zinner (1886 – 1970 German astronomer Hedda Zinner (1905 - 1994 German political writer The two formed an acoustic duo, before deciding to form a punk band not dissimilar to the 'trashy, punky, grimy' art student groups that Karen had left behind in Ohio. The songs were written in 2004, during the Fever To Tell tour, and performed live often. Three of the five tracks were featured on the "Tell Me What Rockers to Swallow" DVD. Karen O and Nick Zinner both appear as guests on Tiny Masters of Today's album Bang Bang Boom Cake. Tiny Masters of Today are an American indie Punk rock band consisting of sibling duo Ivan born and Ada born both from Brooklyn New York. The song was written via email and features Karen singing.

The band is currently in the countryside working on their third LP, which is said, once again, to be inspired by cats, a theme of the band.

The band became one of the first western rock acts to play China when they headlined the Modern Sky Festival in Beijing in 2007. [5]
