This club was founded in 2003 as Shanghai Jiucheng (The 9) by Zhu Jun, the CEO of The9 Limited and joined the Chinese Yi League in 2004. The9 Limited ( ( Corporation is a Shanghai -based Online game operator with the exclusive license to operate and distribute World of Warcraft They won the play-offs and promoted to Chinese Jia League where in 2005, they finished in 9th position.
The9 Limited was bought Shanghai Zobon in 2005 and the newly merged club was renamed as Shanghai Liancheng Zobon (aka Shanghai United). The9 Limited ( ( Corporation is a Shanghai -based Online game operator with the exclusive license to operate and distribute World of Warcraft
However, some members of the club did not join Shanghai Liancheng Zobon and they formed a new club which was bought by the Euro-China Group (Simplified Chinese: 中欧集团) who renamed the team as Shanghai Qunying also known as the Shanghai Stars. When a company called Kangbo sponsored the team from 2005 to 2006 it was then known as Shanghai Kangbo in China. Currently a company called Qidouxing (Simplified Chinese: 七斗星商旅酒店; Top Star) are club sponsors so the team is now known as Shanghai Qidouxing.
Before the season 2008, the club moved to Wuxi, the city of Jiangsu Province.
