Campbell was a pioneer of astronomical spectroscopy, he catalogued the radial velocities of stars, and was a director of Lick Observatory from 1901 to 1930. He served as 10th President of the University of California from 1923 to 1930. The University of California ( UC) is a Public university system in the state of California. He committed suicide on June 14th, 1938 at the age of 76.
