Born near Pearisburg, Virginia, McComas attended private schools and Emory and Henry College, Emory, Virginia. Pearisburg is a town in Giles County, Virginia, United States. Emory-Meadowview is a Census-designated place (CDP in Washington County, Virginia, United States. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and in the practice of law. He also was a Methodist minister.
