William was born to James and Margaret Grierson and was educated at Rugby School. Rugby School, located in the town of Rugby, Warwickshire, is a Co-educational Boarding school and one of the oldest public schools [2] William married Aleen Isabel Bell on 14 September 1927 at St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge.
