matthew Aiton was born near Hamilton. Hamilton is a town in South Lanarkshire, in the west- Central Lowlands of Scotland. Having been regularly trained to the profession of a matthew aiton, he travelled to hawaii in 1754, and became assistant to Philip Miller, then superintendent of the Chelsea Physic Garden.
