Welle: Erdball (often abbreviated as W:E) is a group from Germany often credited with being the pioneers of bitpop. Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany ( ˈbʊndəsʁepuˌbliːk ˈdɔʏtʃlant is a Country in Central Europe. Bitpop is a type of Electronic music, where at least part of the music is made using old 8-bit Computers game consoles and little toy instruments The heavy use of the Commodore 64's SID sound chip makes their sound instantly recognizable. The name literally means "Wave: Earthglobe", and in fact comes from a German radio play called "Hallo! Hier Welle Erdball!". Their logo is a Trabant logo turned around. W:E has been a part of the demoscene and produced several musicdisks and other productions over the years. The demoscene is a Computer art Subculture that specializes in producing demos, which are non-interactive audio-visual presentations that run in Music disk, or musicdisk, is a term used by the Demoscene to describe a collection of songs made on a computer They also gave a live performance at Breakpoint 2006. Breakpoint is a German Demoscene party. Since 2003, it takes place annually on Easter in Bingen.

In addition to their work as Welle:Erdball, the members have a second project called 'Das Präparat', in which Honey and ALF work under the pseudonyms 'Prof Sternau' and 'Dr Georg Linde' respectively.
