Web of Science is an online academic database provided by Thomson Scientific. Thomson Scientific was one of the five operating divisions of The Thomson Corporation until 2008 It provides access to five databases: Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), Index Chemicus, and Current Chemical Reactions. Science Citation Index ( SCI) is a Citation index originally produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI in 1960 which is now owned by Social Sciences Citation Index ( SSCI) is an interdisciplinary Citation index product of Thomson Scientific. The Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI is a Citation index of over 1000 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals Its databases cover about 8,700 leading journals of science, technology, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Science (from the Latin scientia, meaning " Knowledge " or "knowing" is the effort to discover, and increase human understanding Technology is a broad concept that deals with a Species ' usage and knowledge of Tools and Crafts and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt The social sciences comprise academic disciplines concerned with the study of the social life of human groups and individuals including Anthropology, Communication studies The arts is a broad subdivision of Culture, composed of many expressive disciplines. The three citation databases listed above contain references which have been cited by other articles. The two chemistry databases allow for the creation of structure drawings, thus enabling users to locate chemical compounds and reactions. These databases may also be searched for compound and reaction data.
