The school recently won a grant of £30 million to perform a full school re-build as most of its buildings are only temporary classrooms.

Extra-curricular activities

Although particular departments (such as maths and science) run classes for specific groups of students, the vast majority of activities after school are open for all. Examples of sport clubs are:

Waingels wishes for each student to find something that they enjoy doing, so art clubs (Tuesday), science club (TBC), debating groups (Thursday), ICT related clubs (TBC) and drama classes (Tuesday) are also run.

Sporting achievements

The P. E. department at Waingels encourages students to take part in many extracurricular sporting activities such as football. Their main rival is The Bulmershe School, located on the other side of Woodley, as it is a specialist Sports College. The Bulmershe School is a mixed-sex Comprehensive school located in Woodley, Berkshire, England, which first opened in 1964 as a Grammar Sports Colleges were introduced as part of the Specialist Schools Programme in the United Kingdom.
