The adventure concerns the lich Vecna, and involves his disembodied hand and eye, which are both powerful magical artifacts. [3] During the course of the storyline, it is revealed that Vecna has ascended to demigod status, and he serves as the ultimate foe for the adventurers in the module. The term " demigod " meaning "half-god" is used to describe mythological figures whose one parent was a god and whose other parent was human Assuming the players are successful in defeating Vecna, he is transported to and imprisoned within the Ravenloft campaign setting at the conclusion of the adventure.
