The first Vabis automobile (though the name was not applied until after this)[1] was a four-seater designed by Gustaf Erikson in Surahammar[2] in 1897. Herzogin Cecilie was a German four mast Barque ( Windjammer) named after German Crown Princess Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Surahammar is a town (pop 6300 in Västmanland, Sweden and the seat of Surahammar Municipality, Västmanland County. Strongly resembling a contemprary carriage,[3] it used a one-cylinder kerosene engine, tiller steering,[4] and was not a success.
