The British had earlier started a development office that helped in some small developments in the Emirates. The sheikhs of the Emirates decided then to form a council to coordinate matters between them and took over the development office. The inhabitants of the Gulf states have enjoyed camel racing for many years as it is considered a traditional sport. Camel racing is a popular Sport in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Australia. [19] Formalizing camel racing was one way of maintaining its central role in UAE life. In the past, UAE had a reputation for exploiting South Asian children as jockeys. Before 2005 children as young as four are trafficked from countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sudan for use as jockeys in the Persian However, Robot jockeys are now used after strict government regulations were passed prohibiting underage jockeys from racing. A robot jockey is commonly used on Camels in Camel racing as a replacement for human Jockeys Developed beginning in 2004 the Robotic jockeys [20]
