Uist (pronounced /ˈjuːɪst/, /ˈuːɪst/) or The Uists (Scottish Gaelic: Uibhist IPA[ˈiviʃtʲ]) are the central group of islands in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Scottish Gaelic ( Gàidhlig) is a member of the Goidelic branch of Celtic languages. The Outer Hebrides, ( officially known for local government purposes by the Gaelic name Na h-Eileanan Siar) comprise an island Scotland ( Gaelic: Alba) is a Country in northwest Europethat occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain.

North Uist and South Uist are linked by causeways running via Benbecula and Grimsay, and the entire group is sometimes known as the Uists.
