USS Haven (AH-12), was the lead ship of her class of hospital ships built for the U.S. Navy during World War II. Medical evacuation, often termed MEDEVAC or medivac, is the timely and efficient movement and en route care provided by medical personnel to the wounded being Haven -class ships — lead ship of class used in Operation Crossroads and Korean War — present for Surrender World War II, or the Second World War, (often abbreviated WWII) was a global military conflict which involved a majority of the world's nations, including Laid down as SS Marine Hawk, she was transferred from the Maritime Commission for conversion to a hospital ship, and served in that capacity through the end of the war. The United States Maritime Commission was an independent executive agency of the US Federal government that was created by the Merchant Marine Act of 1936, passed by Congress She was redesignated APH-112 (evacuation transport) in June 1946 for participation in Operation Crossroads, returning to her original AP-12 in October 1946.
