UK Sport is the United Kingdom's organisation for directing the development of sport within the home countries. It is under the direction of UK Sport's Council. The board is chaired by Sue Campbell (appointed for a four year term from March 2005). Four organisations fulfil roles for the four individual nations: Sport England, sportscotland, Sports Council for Wales and Sport Northern Ireland. Sport England is the brand name for the English Sports Council and is a Non-departmental public body under the Department for sportscotland, formerly the Scottish Sports Council, is the national agency for Sport in Scotland. The Sports Council for Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and active lifestyles in Wales.
Succeeding the Sports Council of Great Britain, UK Sport was established in 1996 by Royal Charter. A Royal Charter is a Charter granted by the Sovereign on the advice of the Privy council to legitimize an incorporated body such as a city company
UK Sport is the official sports body that governs drugs testing of athletes in the UK on a regular basis. [1] Testing is conducted by a Doping Control Officer (DCO) from Britain's National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO).
