The Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) radio band is part of the radio frequency spectrum used by IEEE-802.11a devices and by many wireless ISPs. A band is a small section of the spectrum of Radio communication frequencies, in which channels are usually used or set aside for the same Radio frequency ( RF) is a Frequency or rate of Oscillation within the range of about 3 Hz to 300 GHz IEEE 80211a-1999 or 80211a, is an amendment to the IEEE 80211 specification that added a higher throughput of up to 54 Mbit/s by using the 5 GHz It operates over three ranges:

Wireless ISPs generally use 5. 725-5. 825 GHz.

U-NII is an FCC regulatory domain for 5- GHz wireless devices. U-NII power limits are defined by the United States CFR Title 47 (Telecommunication), Part 15 - Radio Frequency Devices, Subpart E - Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure Devices, Paragraph 15. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR is the codification of the general and permanent rules and regulations (sometimes called administrative law) published in the 407 - General technical requirements. Regulatory use in individual countries may differ.

The European HiperLAN standard operates in the U-NII band. HiperLAN (HIgh PErformance Radio LAN is a Wireless LAN standard
