As of the 2001 UK census, the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford had a total population of 210,145. A nationwide Census, commonly known as Census 2001, was conducted in the United Kingdom on Sunday 29 April 2001 [53] Of the 89,313 households in Trafford, 36. 5% were married couples living together, 31. 6% were one-person households, 7. 8% were co-habiting couples and 9. Historically, the economy of the Trafford area has been dominated by agriculture.
