History

Broadcast reports on traffic conditions, usually heard on radio, became popular in large U. S. cities in the 1960's and quickly spread in use to other areas as population centers grew. This led to the expansion of traffic reporting companies, including Shadow Broadcast Services, Metro Networks, and other regional traffic reporting agencies.
