Barnard was born in Long Prairie, Minnesota and raised in North Minneapolis. Long Prairie is a city in Todd County, Minnesota, United States. He and his wife Kathryn Brandt live with their two children in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Golden Valley is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. Barnard also maintains a second home in Florida.
