Following his professional hockey career, Nelson would move into coaching. He was the head coach of the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League and is now an assistant coach for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. The Muskegon Fury was a International Hockey League Ice hockey team located in Muskegon Michigan. The International Hockey League is a mid-level Professional Ice hockey league with teams in the United States.
