The band was formed in 1997 in Winnipeg, Manitoba by John K. Samson, after he left the punk band Propagandhi to start a publishing company. In 2003, the band moved to Epitaph Records and released Reconstruction Site. Jim Bryson is a Canadian Singer-songwriter. Briefly a founding member of the band Punchbuggy, he moved to a musical life under his own name with the Epitaph Records is a Hollywood California based Record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Reconstruction Site is a 2003 album by The Weakerthans. A song cycle about grief regret and loss the album is thematically framed by three tracks "(Manifest" The album was met with rave reviews[6] from Canadian and international critics for its ambitious combination of punk, rock, folk, country and sonnets. The sonnet is one of the poetic forms that can be found in Lyric poetry from Europe. It also became the band's best-selling record to date, as well as its airplay breakthrough on Canadian radio. In 2005, Left and Leaving was named one of the ten best Canadian albums of all time in Chart magazine's reader poll. Chart is a monthly Canadian music magazine It is currently the only English Canadian popular music consumer magazine operating as a paid newsstand and subscriber [7] In the same poll, Samson wrote the capsule review for another top ten finisher, The Lowest of the Low's Shakespeare My Butt, which he cited as a major influence on his own music.
