The Seafarer is a play by Conor McPherson set on Christmas Eve in Baldoyle, a coastal settlement north of Dublin city. Conor McPherson (born August 6, 1971) is an Irish Playwright and director. Baldoyle ( Baile Dúill in Irish) comprises a small coastal village and wide surrounding area with suburban housing estates and farmland on the Northside Dublin (ˈdʌblɨn/ /ˈdʊblɨn or /ˈdʊbəlɪn/, bˠalʲə aːha klʲiəh or cliə(ɸ is both the largest city and capital of Ireland. The play centers on James "Sharkey" Harkin, an alcoholic who has recently returned to live with his blind, aging brother, Richard Harkin. As Sharkey attempts to stay off the bottle during the holidays, he contends with the hard-drinking, irascible Richard and his own haunted conscience.

Production History

The play was first performed in September 2006 at the Cottesloe auditorium of London's National Theatre. The Royal National Theatre, located on the South Bank in the London Borough of Lambeth, England. It received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Play, and Jim Norton won an Olivier for his performance. The Laurence Olivier Award is regarded as the most prestigious award in British theatre and is presented in recognition of artistic achievement in London theatre [1] The Cottesloe cast was as follows[2]
