Rumours were around that the song was going to originally be called "We Are The Lovers", but then the name "The Heart Never Lies" was officially confirmed on the band's official website and MySpace.

The song debuted at number three in the official UK Singles Chart, being beaten by Take That, "Rule the World"' which charted at number two, and Leona Lewis, "Bleeding Love" which debuted at number one. A bulletin was sent to friends of McFly's MySpace page on September 8, 2007 announcing that they had shot the video to the single in Bath.
