Joseph-Théodore Deck (1823-1891) was a 19th century French potter. Born in Guebwiller, Alsace, he began learning the trade in his early 20s, moving to Paris at age 24. Guebwiller (Guebwiller gebvilɛʁ Alsatian: Gàwiller, pronounced; Gebweiler is a commune of the Haut-Rhin département Alsace (Alsace alzas Alsatian and Elsass pre-1996 German: Elsaß; Alsatia is one of the 26 Regions of France, located on the eastern Paris (ˈpærɨs in English; in French) is the Capital of France and the country's largest city In 1856 he established his own faience workshop, and began to experiment with the Islamic style of ceramic making, and in particular the Iznik style. For the architectural material see Glazed architectural terra-cotta. In the 1880s he also worked in the Chinese tradition, also collaborating with Raphaël Collin. Raphaël Collin (1850 - 1916 was born and raised in Paris, where he became a prominent academic painter and in later life a professor at the Académie des Beaux-Arts
In 1887 he published a treatise under the title La Faïence.
