Syston is a town and civil parish in the district of Charnwood in Leicestershire, England. Lincolnshire (abbreviated Lincs) is a county in the east of England. Syston is a small hamlet located 3 miles north of Grantham on the A607 road which runs to the county town of Lincoln. A civil parish in the United Kingdom is a unit of local government. Leicestershire (ˈlɛstəʃə(r or ˈlɛstəʃɪə(r abbreviation Leics England is a Country which is part of the United Kingdom. Its inhabitants account for more than 83% of the total UK population whilst its mainland The 2004 population was 11,847.
There has been a settlement on the site for over 1000 years, the earliest records being in the Domesday book as Sitestone. The Domesday Book (ˈduːmzdeɪ bʊk also known as Domesday, or Book of Winchester) was the record of the great survey The Roman road known as the Fosse Way passes through Syston, which is now largely a commuter town for Leicester. The Fosse Way was a Roman road in England that linked Exeter ( Isca Dumnoniorum) in South West England to Lincoln Leicester (ˈlɛstə is the largest city and Unitary authority area in the East Midlands of England, and is the traditional Only Thurmaston, to the South, separates it from Leicester. Thurmaston is a village and Civil parish within the Charnwood district of Leicestershire, England.
The Midland Main Line runs through the town. The Midland Main Line is a major railway line in the United Kingdom, part of the British railway system. Syston railway station currently has one platform on what remains of the former goods line, served by local Leicester to Lincoln via Nottingham and Newark services on the Ivanhoe Line. The 'Syston white plum' is well known in the Syston locality and has been grown there for well over 100 years. It is yellow, oval in shape, thin skinned and a good sized dessert plum. It normally crops in September and is emblazoned on the Syston Town welcoming signs. [3]

The River Soar runs past the western edge of the town, shortly after passing under the A46 road which underwent significant improvements early in 2006 at the Hobby Horse Roundabout, a popular meeting place on the Leicester Western Bypass. The River Soar is a Tributary of the River Trent in the English East Midlands. The A46 is a Trunk road in England. It largely follows the course of the Roman Fosse Way, from Lincoln to south Devon. Constructed in the early 1990 's the Leicester Western Bypass refers to a section of the A46, between the M1 motorway and Syston.
