History

Systematic Chaos was written and recorded from September 2006 to January 2007 at Avatar Studios in New York City, co-produced by drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci and engineered by Paul Northfield. September 2006 was marked by a controversy surrounding statements made by Pope Benedict XVI regarding Islam, during the same week as the fifth anniversary January 2007 is the first month of that year It began on a Monday and 31 days later ended on a Wednesday. In late January and early February the band played in Australia for the first time in their career.
