Swissôtel, originally founded in 1980 by SwissAir and Nestlé, was acquired by Raffles Holdings in 2001. Swissair ( Swiss Air Transport Company Limited) was the former national Airline of Switzerland. Nestlé is a multinational packaged food company founded and headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland Raffles Holdings was the parent company of Raffles International. The portfolios of both Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts and Raffles Hotels and Resorts were merged to form Raffles International. In July 2005, Raffles International, was acquired by Colony Capital, LLC, a private investment firm that held a 100% direct equity interest. Colony Capital LLC is a private international investment firm based in Los Angeles, California. This transaction garnered the prestigious “Deal of the Year” award for Colony Capital and Raffles Holdings, presented at the 16th annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) in Hong Kong in October 2005.
