Sturm, Ruger & Company was founded by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm in 1949 in a small rented machine shop in Southport, Connecticut. William Batterman Ruger ( June 21, 1916 &ndash July 6, 2002) partnered with Alexander McCormick Sturm in 1949 to establish Sturm Alexander McCormick "Sandy" Sturm ( 1923 - 13 November, 1951) was an American artist and writer who was a co-founder of Sturm Ruger, Southport is a seaside town on the Irish Sea coast situated within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, in England, UK. In addition to the furor amongst hunters, sportsmen and shooters caused by "The Ruger Letter", Mr. Ruger made additional comments during an interview with NBC network's Tom Brokaw that angered 2nd Amendment supporters further, saying: "no honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun…" and "I never meant for simple civilians to have my 20 and 30 round magazines…". Thomas John "Tom" Brokaw (born February 6, 1940) is an American Television Journalist and Author, and It has long been Ruger's policy to limit sales of those items to Law Enforcement or Military purchasers.

This position, coming from an important firearms manufacturer such as Mr. Ruger, caused outrage in the shooting sports community and led some to boycott Ruger's products. A boycott is a form of Consumer activism involving the act of voluntarily abstaining from using buying or dealing with someone or some other organization as an expression of

"The Ruger Letter" is widely believed to be the genesis for those parts of legislation that were drafted 5 years later in the now defunct Assault Weapons Ban which prohibited the manufacture of any magazines holding over 10 rounds of ammunition for civilian sale, except to the motion-picture industry, which Ruger continued to pursue.
