Staffordshire Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent in the West Midlands of England. A combined force covering Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, called Staffordshire County and Stoke-on-Trent Constabulary was established on January 1, 1968, as a merger of the Staffordshire County Police and Stoke-on-Trent City Police. The Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police is currently Christopher Sims who was appointed in July 2007, following on from the retirement of David Swift. The Central Motorway Police Group ( CMPG) is a co-operative operation between three police forces in the West Midlands of England. Swift was Deputy Chief Constable for the force before replacing previous incumbent John Giffard in early 2006 firstly in an acting capacity and finally confirmed in the post substantively late in 2006.
