Mission highlights
This test Vostok spacecraft was the fourth in a series of spacecraft designed as precursors to manned space flight. The spacecraft carried a dummy cosmonaut, the dog Chernushka, mice, and a guinea pig. During the 1950s and 1960s the USSR used a number of Dogs for Sub-orbital and orbital space flights to determine whether human spaceflight was feasible The Guinea pig (also commonly called the cavy after its scientific name Cavia porcellus) is a species of Rodent belonging to the family Caviidae [1] The flight lasted for a single orbit, and a successful recovery was made.
