Soqotri is the native language of the island of Socotra off the southern coast of Yemen. Socotra or Soqotra ( Arabic سقطرى; Suquṭra) is a small Archipelago of four islands and islets in the Indian Ocean Yemen ( Arabic: اليَمَن al-Yaman officially the Republic of Yemen ( Arabic: الجمهورية اليمنية al-Jumhuuriyya It is a South Semitic language. South Semitic is one of the three macro-classifications in Semitic linguistics the other two being East Semitic (e Soqotri speakers are only rarely found in the Yemeni mainland. This makes the language isolated from the rest of Yemen. Yemen ( Arabic: اليَمَن al-Yaman officially the Republic of Yemen ( Arabic: الجمهورية اليمنية al-Jumhuuriyya Arabic is also spoken on Socotra. Arabic (ar الْعَرَبيّة (informally ar عَرَبيْ) in terms of the number of speakers is the largest living member of the Semitic language [1]
