Sodhi is a Punjabi tribe of Kshatriyas clan in Punjab. The Punjabi people ( Punjabi: ਪੰਜਾਬੀ پنجابی also Panjabi people) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group from South Asia. Kshatriya (क्षत्रिय kṣatriya from क्षत्र kṣatra) is one of the four varnas (social orders in Hinduism Sodhis are Sikh and muslims clan also. The Sodhis claim descent from an ancestor called Sodhi Rai in 12th century. In Sikhism, the last six living Gurus all belonged to the Sodhi clan. Sodhis of Anandpur: Anandpur was founded by Gulab Rai, first cousin to the 10th Guru. From his brother Sham Chand's four sons, Nahr Singh, Udai Singh, Khem Singh and Chur Singh, the branches of Anandpur Sodhis the Bari, Dusri, Teesri and Chauthi Sarkar are descended. They held a Jagir worth Rs. 10000 in Patiala and a Jagir of Rs. 4750 in Faridkot.
The other prominent Sodhi family resides in Kartarpur near Jalandhar. This family possesses probably the first Guru Granth Saab ever written by Guru Maharaj Ji himself. Kartarpur is also the home to Thamji Saab Gurudwara, which Guru Maharaj Ji founded.
Actually, Sodhi are very few in number. A very small clan. Still they have some villages where they have good land and importance. Thase villages are Kheri Sodhian and Majri Sodhian in Ropar distt, Khanpur Sodhian and Sangatpur Sodhian in Fatehgarh Sahib distt, Dialpura Sodhian in Patiala distt, Ghrachon and Sherpur Sodhian in Sangrur distt, Daaun Sodhian near mohali distt, Kothe Guru in Bathinda distt, Dhilwan Sodhian in Faridkot distt, Manawan, Buttar and Mallan in Moga distt and most important of them all the Sodhis of Village Guru Har Sahae where they hold most of the land of surrounding 8,9 villages.
