In swimming, Short Course (abbreviated SC) stands for a competition organized in a pool of 25 metres in length, instead of a regular Olympic size swimming pool of 50 metres. The metre or meter is a unit of Length. It is the basic unit of Length in the Metric system and in the International An Olympic-size swimming pool is the type of Swimming pool used in the Olympic Games and other "long course" events

In the United States, short course is more often 25 yards; the two are differentiated as SCY and SCM. Records set in yards pools are American Records (if set by an American) or American Open Records (if set by someone if different citizenship). NCAA championships are swum SCY, except in Olympic years, when meters courses are used.
