Sharon Joy Grierson (born 4 May 1951), Australian politician, has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives since November 2001, representing the Division of Newcastle. She was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, and was educated at Newcastle Teachers College. The Newcastle metropolitan area is the second most populated area in the state of New South Wales and includes most of the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie She was a teacher and school principal before entering politics.
She is currently the only Labor MP to sign the Australian Marriage Equality Charter, voting in favour for legislation to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia when it is presented in parliament.
