The Shanghai Masters, also known as the World Snooker Roewe Shanghai Masters for sponsorship purposes, is a professional snooker tournament. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association ( WPBSA, also known as the World Snooker Association or simply World Snooker for short is the governing Roewe (in Chinese: 荣威 in Pinyin: Rongwei, English pronunciation, which is similar to the British pronunciation for "Rover") Snooker is a Cue sport that is played on a large Baize -covered table with pockets in each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long It is one of a number of ranking tournaments. The event was introduced in the 2007/08 season and is the second ranking event to be held in China as a result of the growth of the sport in the country.
