Previously, Chapin was general manager of the Metropolitan Opera. The Metropolitan Opera Association of New York City, founded in April 1880 is a major presenter of all types of opera including Grand Opera. In 1995, he married Catia Z. Mortimer in a ceremony at Gracie Mansion at which Mayor Giuliani officiated. Gracie Mansion is the Official residence of the Mayor of New York City.
