The family Scarabaeidae as presently defined consists of over 30,000 species of beetles worldwide. Melolonthinae is a subfamily of scarab Beetles Arthropods are Animals belonging to the Phylum Arthropoda (from Greek ἄρθρον arthron, " Joint " Insects ( Class Insecta) are a major group of Arthropods and the most diverse group of Animals on the Earth with over a million described Beetles are the group of Insects with the largest number of known Species. Scarabaeoidea is a Superfamily of Beetles the only subgroup of the Infraorder Scarabaeiformia. Pierre André Latreille ( November 20, 1762 - February 6, 1833) was a French entomologist. Flower chafers are a group of scarab beetles, subfamily Cetoniinae ---- The rhinoceros beetles or rhino beetle are a subfamily ( Dynastinae) of Beetles in the family of Scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae Melolonthinae is a subfamily of scarab Beetles The subfamily Scarabaeinae consists of Species often labelled true Dung beetles. The Trichiinae are a Subfamily of the Beetle family Scarabaeidae. Beetles are the group of Insects with the largest number of known Species. The species in this large family are often called scarabs or scarab beetles. The classification of this family is fairly unstable, with numerous competing theories, and new proposals appearing quite often. It is probable that many of the subfamilies listed here will no longer be recognized very much longer, as they will likely be reduced in status below subfamily rank, or elevated to family status (the latter is most likely, e. g. , with the family "Melolonthidae" already appearing in some recent classifications). Other families have been removed recently, and are nearly universally accepted (e. g. , Pleocomidae, Glaresidae, Glaphyridae, Ochodaeidae, Geotrupidae, Bolboceratidae)

Scarabs are stout-bodied beetles, many with bright metallic colors, measuring between 5-60 mm. The rain beetles ( Pleocoma) are a genus of Beetles found in the Far West of North America. Glaresis is a Genus of Beetles sometimes called "enigmatic scarab beetles" in its own family the Glaresidae. Glaphyridae is a family of Beetles Ochodaeidae, sometimes known as the sand-loving scarab beetles, is a small but widely-distributed family of scarabaeiform Beetles These beetles are Geotrupidae (from Greek geos, earth and trypetes, borer is a family of beetles in the order Coleoptera They have distinctive, clubbed antennae composed of plates called lamellae that can be compressed into a ball or fanned out like leaves to sense odors. Antennae (singular antenna) are paired Appendages connected to the front-most segments of Arthropods In Crustaceans they are The front legs are broad and adapted for digging.

The C-shaped larvae, called grubs, are pale yellow or white. A larva ( Latin; plural larvae) is a juvenile form of Animal with indirect development, undergoing Metamorphosis (for example Most adult beetles are nocturnal, although the flower chafers (Cetoniinae) and many leaf chafers (Rutelinae) are active during the day. Flower chafers are a group of scarab beetles, subfamily Cetoniinae The grubs mostly live underground or under debris, so are not exposed to sunlight. Many scarabs are scavengers that recycle dung, carrion, or decaying plant material. Carrion (from the Latin caro, meaning meat refers to the carcass of a dead animal Others, such as the Japanese beetle are devastating agricultural pests. The Japanese beetle ( Popillia japonica commonly referred to as the jitterbug is a Beetle about 1

In ancient Egypt, scarabs were revered as sacred. This article is about the country of Egypt For a topic outline on this subject see List of basic Egypt topics. Some of the well-known beetles from the Scarabaeidae are Japanese beetles, dung beetles, June beetles, rose chafers, rhinoceros beetles, Hercules beetles and Goliath beetles. The Japanese beetle ( Popillia japonica commonly referred to as the jitterbug is a Beetle about 1 Dung beetles are beetles which feed partly or exclusively on Feces. ---- The rhinoceros beetles or rhino beetle are a subfamily ( Dynastinae) of Beetles in the family of Scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae The Hercules beetle ( Dynastes hercules) is the most famous of the Rhinoceros beetles Native to the Rain forests of Central and South America The Goliath beetles are among the largest insects on Earth, if measured in terms of size bulk and weight

Several members of this family have shells which act as left handed circular polarisers; this was the first-discovered example of circular polarization in nature. Only a few mechanisms in nature are known to systematically produce circularly polarized Light. [1]
