Roy Parviz Mottahedeh (born July 3, 1940 in New York City) is a professor of pre-modern social and intellectual history of the Islamic Middle East at Harvard University and expert on Iranian culture. Mottahedeh received two degrees from Harvard - a B. A. in 1960 and a Ph. D. in 1970. He received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1982.
