Following the break-up of the Cocteau Twins, Guthrie's first solo record, Imperial, was released in 2003 on Bella Union Records. In 2006, Guthrie signed a four album solo deal for Darla Records, the first product of which was the LP Continental. Darla Records is an Independent record label founded by James Agren (in 1994 while he was in New York. Subsequently, he has released two four-track EPs entitled "Everlasting" and "Waiting for Dawn" (a further solo track, titled "Argenta", can be found on the Darla Records compilation "Little Darla has A Treat For You v. 24: Endless Summer Edition"), and two albums in collaboration with Harold Budd: "Before The Day Breaks" and "After The Night Falls".
