He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for The Divorcee and The Great Ziegfeld. The Academy Award for Achievement in Directing (Best Director is one of the Awards of Merit presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS to The Divorcee is a 1930 American Drama film written by Nick Grindé, John Meehan and Zelda Sears, and based on The Great Ziegfeld ( 1936) is a Musical film produced by MGM.
