Early life and education

Belzer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA to a Jewish family of Francis and Charles Belzer, a candy and tobacco retailer. He attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, Massachusetts for a year and a part of a semester before being asked to leave for leading too many student demonstrations.
