Nichols won 9 All England Open Badminton Championships titles between 1932 and 1939, 5 of them in men's singles, 3 in men's doubles with his brother L. The All England Open Badminton Championships, or simply All England, is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious Badminton tournaments Nichols and 1 in mixed doubles, and is the last Englishman to win the All England Open in men's singles (1938). He also won four Irish Championships. The Irish International in Badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world
Nichols was included in the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1997. The Badminton Hall of Fame honors players who have shown exceptional skill at Badminton, all-time great coaches and referees and other major contributors to the game
