Background, writing and release
Initially, only three singles from the studio album Anamorphosée were scheduled. Anamorphosée is the fourth studio album by Mylène Farmer, released on October 17 1995. "Rêver" was performed during the last three tours : 1996 Tour, Mylenium Tour and Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy. Mylenium Tour is Farmer's 1999 - 2000 concert tour in support of her fifth studio album Innamoramento. Lyrics and music
"Rêver" was the first Farmer's song to refer to the genocide of World War II, in the first verse, through the book If This Is a Man, written by Primo Levi (the second single was "Souviens-toi du jour"). "Rêver" was also sung in the NRJ Music Awards on January 10, 2003. The NRJ Music Awards, created in 2000 by the radio station NRJ in partnership with the Television network TF1 takes place every year in mid-January at Events 49 BC - Julius Caesar crosses the Rubicon, signaling the start of civil war.
