Qingdao Hailifeng Football Club was founded in 18 March, 1998[3] and has recently been a regular in the second division. However, the club has never won promotion to the Jia B League, gaining it place in the division only by buying Guangdong Hongyuan in December 2001. After 4 years of failure to win promotion, the Guangdong Hongyuan Group had lost patience and agreed to sell their Jia B League team to Qingdao Hailifeng.
