The Blackwall plant was on an isthmus site surrounded by a tight loop of Bow Creek (the tidal mouth of the River Lea), once occupied by the Thames Plate Glass Works. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger land areas Bow Creek is a long tidal estuary of the River Lee and is part of the Bow Back Rivers.
