Prakash Rai or Prakash Raj (Kannada: ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ರೈ, Tamil: பிரகாஷ் ராஜ், Telugu: ప్రకాష్ రాజ్ ) born in 1965, is an actor and producer in the Telugu and Tamil film industries (Tollywood and Kollywood respectively). Career

Prakash Rai was born and brought up in Dakshina Kannada district in south Karnataka. Dakshina Kannada ( Kannada & Tulu:ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ (earlier known as South Kanara, or South Canara) is a coastal Karnataka (ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ pronounced) is a state in the southern part of India His mother tongue is Tulu. His performance in the movie was noticed by Geetha and she in turn introduced him to her mentor, the noted director K. Balachander. Prakash Rai is a very famous actor in South India for a wide variety of roles he has performed, most notably as a villain and of late, as a character artiste, in Tamil and Telugu. Prakash Rai studied in St. Josephs Indian High School in Bangalore. He won the President's Scout award in 1982.
