Port-Cartier is a town in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada. Côte-Nord ( French for "Northern Shore" area 24762706  km², or 95609 Quebec (kwɨˈbɛk Country to "Dominion of Canada" or "Canadian Federation" or anything else please read the Talk Page It is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River at the mouth of the Rochers River, exactly 63 kilometers southwest of Sept-Îles, Quebec. Port-Cartier had a population of 6,412 as of the 2001 Canadian census. [1] It has a land area of 1073 square kilometers, ranking 27th in area among all Canadian cities and towns.

Port-Cartier was founded in 1918 and first called Shelter Bay. The Québec Cartier Mining Company built an iron ore processing plant in the 1950s, and modernized and expanded the town and port facility. Québec Cartier Mining Company is one of the leading producers of Iron ore products in North America. Today, the port handles approximately 18 million metric tons of cargo per year. [2]
